EATON TERRACE HOSTS HUD’S DEPUTY SECRETARY SIMS
On Thursday, July 29, 2010, Eaton Terrace Residences hosted a celebration of the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding between the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) that simplifies the weatherization grant application process for multifamily housing owners. Ron Sims, Deputy Secretary of HUD; Dr. Kristina M. Johnson, Under Secretary of the DOE; and Rick Garcia, Regional Administrator of HUD’s Region VIII, held two Weatherization Roundtables - the first for community development corporations and small and minority-owned businesses; the second for multifamily housing owners, housing authorities officials and congressional staffers.
Early this year, Eaton Terrace Residences and Eaton Terrace II were two of fifteen Multifamily Housing Owners in Colorado who received Weatherization Grants from the U.S. Department of Energy through the Governor’s Energy Office and administered by Energy Outreach Colorado. In addition to increasing the energy efficiency of these communities and reducing energy costs for years to come, these grants provided jobs for local businesses and increased the comfort of Eaton Terrace residents.
Governor Bill Ritter joined the group for an 11 a.m. press conference where he received an award from Dr. Johnson and Deputy Secretary Sims, recognizing his work in establishing and supporting the Governor’s Energy Office and Colorado’s New Energy Economy. The press conference was followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony that signified the “Cutting of the Red Tape” for weatherization grant recipients and also the “Grand Re-opening of Energy-Efficient Eaton Terrace Residences.”

EATON TERRACE CHOSEN TO PARTICIPATE IN “COLLAGE”
Eaton Terrace Residences and Eaton Terrace II are two of twenty affordable housing sites in the U. S. that were chosen to participate in a demonstration laboratory using COLLAGE – a web-based resident assessment tool to advance healthy aging for residents and improve community outcomes.
This software will assist in evaluating resident’s health and wellness in areas such as memory loss, nutrition, balance, mental well-being and social connectedness. The collected and analyzed assessment data provide a framework for applying evidence-based interventions to improve:
• the ability of older adults to remain independent;
• the overall quality, consistency, and continuity of health and wellness services;
• the effectiveness of programs and services; and,
• the organizations’ ability to plan for the changing needs of older adults.
COLLAGE is used by a consortium network consisting of continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs), congregate senior housing sites (both market rate and subsidized), and senior service agencies. Members of the network will be able to compare and benchmark resident assessment data with their peers.

GAP Fund Remains Fund-raising Target
In 2008, Wellspring established a "GAP Fund" to assist Eaton Terrace II Assisted Living in serving more residents who rely on Medicaid for support. Because Medicaid reimburses ET II at rates below the cost of care, this fund will support operating losses that are created as we increase the number of Medicaid residents.
